The high summer temperatures are here and the only thing you want to eat are light and rich meals, apart from considerable amounts of water. In CINATUR we want to share with you a couple of our favorite recipes that contain, as main ingredients, very refreshing and delicious summer fruits, these are melon and watermelon. These two fruits are the most preferred to consume in summer, because they are perfectly combinable with sweet and salty foods.
Melon and watermelon have excellent benefits for the body, since between the two they mainly contribute with water, vitamins A, C and B6, potassium, fiber and antioxidants. In addition, 90% of its weight is composed of water and are low in calories.
Knowing the benefits of producing summer fruits like these, we want to share with you two of our favorite recipes for this time of year. They are simple and very refreshing, and we have carefully chosen them to include other foods needed to combat summer heat, like vegetables such as tomatoes or celery.
Melon soup with chips and ham
This cold soup tries to reconvert the classic Spanish dish of melon with ham, giving it a fresh and natural touch. For the ingredients, you will need:
- 1 toad skin melon
- 1 large onion
- 1 large potato
- 1 natural yogurt
- 125 ml of liquid cream
- 500 ml chicken broth
- 75 gr of Iberian ham for decoration
To begin, chop the melon and the onion. Let cook the onion and when it is golden brown, add the pieces of melon. Then add the chicken broth and let cook for 25 minutes. Aside, fry the potato that previously were cut into thin slices. Once the 25 minutes have passed, remove the melon and onion and add the cream and yogurt. Let cool the cream and to decorate add the potato chips and the ham cut into thin slices.
Watermelon smoothie with tomato and celery
This milkshake contains three essential ingredients for the summer, as they have a high diuretic power that will help us eliminate toxins. For one smoothie you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 large watermelon slice
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 celery branch with the leaves
Cut the watermelon and tomatoes into medium dices and the celery branch into julienne, including the leaves. Add all the pieces to the blender and grind until it remains liquid. Strain the mixture to separate the tomato skin and add a little salt to taste. Serve it in a large glass and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach to start the day free of toxins and with the necessary amount of vitamins needed in a hot day.
